+ Why do people seek therapy?

People come into therapy for a myriad of reasons. Some need to respond to unexpected changes in their lives, while others seek self-exploration and personal growth. When coping skills are overwhelmed by guilt, doubt, anxiety, or despair, therapy can help. Therapy can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping for issues such as depression, anxiety, lack of confidence, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, bereavement, and stress management. A trusting relationship with a therapist who is outside your everyday circle of relationships, can help shed light on ineffective patterns of relating and problem-solving. People seeking psychotherapy are willing to take responsibility for their actions, work towards self-change and create greater awareness in their lives.

+ What can I expect in a therapy session?

In therapy with Dr. Halle, you will experience a supportive and judgement-free atmosphere. We will discuss the primary concerns and issues you are confronting. In general, sessions last 50 minutes and are scheduled each week. The process is collaborative and requires both of us working together to create an opportunity for growth and change.

+ What benefits can I expect from working with a therapist?

Psychotherapy can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or open up possible solutions you would not have thought of on your own. Many people find therapy to be a tremendous asset to augmenting personal growth, deepening interpersonal relationships, understanding and resolving family concerns and learning new ways of approaching the hassles of daily life. Through therapy my patients have reported the following:

  • attaining a better understanding of one’s self and one’s personal goals
  • improving interpersonal skills so that important relationships are enhanced
  • finding new and improved ways of responding to stress and anxiety
  • better managing anger and depression
  • improving communication skills by learning how to be a better listener and learning to communicate in ways that help others hear your perspective
  • breaking old and no longer beneficial behaviors and developing new and more adaptive behaviors
  • enhancing self-esteem and self-confidence

+ How long does therapy take?

The length of therapy is different for every person. The treatment is a collaborative process. You and Dr. Halle together will determine the length of treatment that will be most beneficial for you.
